Once
your keywords have been decided upon and your site has been made
as easily "crawlable" to the search engines as possible,
it's time to start submitting it to the search engines and directories.
I promote
your web site to all the top search engines and directories that
still accept free submissions. In the case of certain directories
such as LookSmart (Zeal), a free submission can be made if the website
is non-commercial or has a free resource attached to it. I then
also submit your site to country-specific and topic-specific locations
around the world.
All
the major search engine and directory submissions are made BY
HAND. This ensures that your site is added properly. A detailed
report of where you were submitted is then sent to you.
Results
are not typically quick. It can take anywhere from six to
eight weeks for most free search engines to add your site to their
listings. A lot of research goes into finding the right places to
get your site linked in to. And Google usually places new sites
into a kind of holding area until they age a bit, making it virtually
impossible to place for any important keywords for anywhere from
9 to 12 months! (Yes, I can see you cringing. I feel your pain!)
Effort
should be made to find links and add content during that waiting
period so that when it's up, Google will be happy to place you highly
for the keyword phrases your site is focused upon. For more available
options to continue your website promotion, visit
my pricing page for details.
